Being a 3rd Line is all about embracing the roller coaster ride of life. It's about experiencing the ups and downs, twists and turns, and even the occasional (or frequent) upside-down moments. Living the “fuck around and find out” kind of life, ya know? If you’re a 3rd line you know. 3rd lines have a tendency to strive for perfection, constantly feeling the need to get things right. However, being a 3rd line who’s here to experience it all means life doesn’t come with a pre-written instruction. Mistakes or fuck-ups are not seen as failures but rather as “happy accidents” that can lead to something magical. The key is to keep trying, experimenting, and learning along the way. Progress comes through practice and taking risks, ultimately leading to mastery in various aspects of life.
Line 3s often find themselves journeying through what is commonly referred to as the 'dark night of the soul,' a period of profound inner turmoil and existential crisis. During this challenging phase, they confront their deepest fears, insecurities, and uncertainties, facing the stark reality of their limitations and vulnerabilities. In traditional Human Design this is referred to as “bonds made and broken” and as a 3rd line myself I can completely attest to this being true. Nothing and no one in life are “forever”. Even lasting relationships grow and evolve and change, some just don’t continue growing together. 3rd Lines are here to commit to their own personal development, growth, evolution, and healing but also to the ebb and flow of relationships. Everyone they meet is significant in some way, but not every connection is meant to be lifelong.
Something I want to point out as a 3rd Line is that life tends to move in circles. Certain themes, lessons, or experiences may repeat themselves over time, whether for a short season or consistently throughout life until the lesson is learned. This circle-like pattern manifests in all areas and aspects of life. To me this is a reminder that life is ever-changing and to remain open to growth, change, and the opportunity to continually evolve. Paying attention to this over the last few years has been instrumental in helping me identify what old patterns I may be stepping back into and I’ve been able to catch it much faster than before.
If Line 3 were to be associated with an element, it would hands down be fire. Much like fire, the 3rd Line embodies passion, intensity, and a burning desire to explore and experience life. Fire is unpredictable, just like the rollercoaster nature of the 3rd line individual, full of ups and downs, twists and turns. It represents both creation and destruction, symbolizing the 3rd line's journey of trying it all, learning from both successes and failures. The element of fire also symbolizes transformation and growth, which aligns with the 3rd line's commitment to personal development and evolution. Similar to how fire can mesmerize and draw people in, the 3rd line's energy and magnetism often attracts others to their ever-evolving journey. Like fire, the energy of a 3rd Line is vibrant, dynamic, and ever-changing. They possess a natural knack for igniting enthusiasm and inspiration in themselves and those around them, engulfing others in their zest for life.
In my opinion, Line 3 in the tarot would be the Empress. The Empress is a symbol of abundance, nurturing, and creativity, which resonates with the inherent qualities of Line 3 individuals.
